Cassville R-IV Board Approves Repair and Mitigation Bid for Intermediate Building
During a special school board meeting on February 7, The Cassville R-IV School Board of Education voted unanimously to award a contract for the Cassville Intermediate School Repair and Mitigation Project.
The Notice of Award was issued to the Construction Services Group from Neosho, Missouri. The accepted bid was in the amount of $1,564,168.50.
Anderson Engineering will serve as the project engineer and Paragon Architecture will serve as the architectural firm for the project. Both, have been working on the project since the flood damage occurred in January 2016. The project has included much investigation and planning to evaluate the various issues and remedies that could be established for the project.
The Board of Education has been committed to a full investigation and review of repair and mitigation options that could be put in place to return the Intermediate school back to full capacity while also developing a mitigation plan that would eliminate issues related future flood or high water events.
This project will include repairs to the building and additional measures will be taken to prevent damage from future heavy rain events. Repairs include new concrete floors, installation of cabinets and other classroom resources. But prior to the repairs mitigation efforts will be the focus. The mitigation will include the engineering plans and construction options that will accommodate heavy rain or flood event impacts and water capacity below the Intermediate building basement portion. Mitigation work includes the installation of extensive internal and external drainage systems that will transfer ground water away from the building efficiently.
“The project will alleviate future effects of elevated groundwater levels caused by heavy rains,” stated Dusty Reid, Cassville R-IV Director of Facilities and Operations. Contractors will be on site starting the week of February 27 to begin work with an estimated completion date of August 1.
“The Board of Education and I are excited to begin the repair and mitigation work on the Intermediate building,” stated Dr. Richard Asbill, Cassville R-IV School District Superintendent. “Our goal is to provide a safe, quality learning environment for our students in a reasonable amount of time. While we are eager to once again be able to utilize the space in the intermediate building, we also want to ensure the project is completed correctly and proper precautions are taken to ensure the issue is corrected. We owe that commitment to our students, teachers, and community.”
