Scott Tech DECA Students to compete at DECA’s International Competition

More than 1,700 high school students from across Missouri met to compete for statewide honors in the DECA marketing competitive events in March.  The contests are part of the annual Missouri DECA State Career Development Conference held at the Lodge of Four Seasons at Lake of the Ozarks.  

Students participate in over 40 events including principles of business administration, business planning and operations, marketing research, fashion merchandising promotion, advertising, chapter team projects, leadership academies, and entrepreneurship projects. DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism.

Competitors who qualified by earning top scores at the State level, advanced to the International Career Development Conference which was held in Anaheim, CA from April 25 -230, 2017.  Over 400 Missouri DECA participants will represent the state by competing for international honors against students from across the globe.

Finalists Team Members:

·  Ellie Cahalan (Cassville) 3rd place Learn and Earn Project about their custom embroidery business ran through the school’s Scotty Store.

·  Emily Pendergraft (Wheaton) 3rd place Learn and Earn Project about their custom embroidery business ran through the school’s Scotty Store.

·  Melissa Sanchez (Monett) 4th place Public Relations Plan about the Anti-Bullying Campaign implemented in the Monett School District this year. 

·  Brandon Rodriguez (Aurora) School Based Enterprise (SBE) Gold Certification, an in-depth application about how Scott Tech’s school store meets the 6 functions of marketing.

·  Hunter Freeman (Pierce City) School Based Enterprise (SBE) Gold Certification, an in-depth application about how Scott Tech’s school store meets the 6 functions of marketing.

Ellie Cahalan will be a senior at Cassville High School in the fall. She is the dauther of Teresa Cahalan of Cassville.

DECA is an international association of high school students studying marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Missouri DECA ranks eighth in the nation in membership with more than 8,500 members.
