O'GOREK WINS ELKS ESSAY CONTEST
Ava O'Gorek, daugther of Jarrad and Johanna O'Gorek and a 7th Grader at Cassville Middle School, won 1st Prize and $100 in the Division II (7th & 8th graders) for her 300 word essay entitled " America's Greatest Heroes" The contest for 5-8th Graders was sponsored by the Holiday Island , AR Elks Lodge 1042 Americanism Committee as part of the Elks National Contest: "Why Our American Veterans Are American's Heroes." Ms. O'Gorek competed against 5 schools and 75 entries! Her essay has been forwarded for judging at the District then possibility at the State Level for additional prize money.
Holiday Island Americanism Committee Peggy Lodewyks, Chair, Ken Brown and Peggy Supiran presented the check and the certificates of appreciation to Mr. O'Gorek and her teacher Leslie McCullough.
The Elks are the Premier Charitable and Patriotic Organization in the Nation, celebrating their 150th Anniversary this year. They are committed to the mission. "So long as there are veterans, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them."
